This is in regards to a fraudulent DHL shipment created by your agent, DHL Express 86 Rue Betioui Oued Zhoun in Fes (Tel: +212 5229 72020). On Saturday, 27 May, my husband and I were involved in an international fraudulent activity involving your DHL Express office. The short of it is that the RIAD RCIF at which we were staying, organized what they told us was a guided tour by a professor at the University. Professor Alex, as we were told his name is, was to take us around the most interesting and non-tourist sites in Fes. He was to take us to the actual craftsmen and women doing the crafts, showing us how they do their crafts (to include metal work, ceramics/mosaics, hand-crafted rugs). Professor Alex – who’s name on his US identification card, which I took a picture of – states his name as El Biach Hircham (not Alex), but we didn’t get to see this until after I felt like we had been scammed.
He asked if we wouldn’t mind going to a government run rug (carpet) establishment because that day was the last day of the artisan market and the government was issuing a 70% sales price on all carpets purchased on that day. He said he also invested in carpets and antiques, selling them for 2x the price he paid to his very good friend and colleague, Mr. Jason Cohen (aka a retired cardiologist living in Washington DC). Mr. Cohen, according to “Professor Alex,” then sold the carpets at auction through Sotheby’s for 3-4x the original price paid. Professor Alex invited us to do the same stating, when I asked why Mr. Cohen would need us to purchase them here, that the Moroccan government only allows up to 6 carpets to be purchased by each individual each year tax free and for the 70% off price. Then the real scam began. They took my husband upstairs and separated us. Professor Alex kept me downstairs. Upstairs my husband was completing the American Express processing and the Fes Carpet owner/salesman, Malouk Alouid and his assistant (a very aggressive woman who wouldn’t allow me to be with my husband during this time). At that point, my concerns were very high – they had started a while earlier when Professor Alex was telling them that he was buying 6 carpets and to put $20K of the purchase price on his debit card (that he handed him) and the remaining on his credit card, but alas, that never happened because as soon as they had us scammed, it was about our American Express – so while I was downstairs not knowing what was going on upstairs with my husband, Malouk and his assistant (who I believe is his wife as we have located both of them online with pictures), I asked Professor Alex for his identification which he quickly showed us when he first met us at Riad RCIF. He reluctantly pulled out his Florida temporary ID card (see picture), but I asked him for his actual driver’s license. He said he didn’t have it with him – which I’m sure was a lie – but at least I have a picture of an authentic identification with his birthdate, picture and height along with several pictures of him (see attachment).
My husband came downstairs and the show was in high gear. Malouk and his helpers were racing against time to get the rugs bound together and in the cart awaiting for them to rush down to your DHA Express (at 86 Rue Betioui Oued Zhoun in Fes Madina). I told my husband to take a picture of the “carpet receipt from so-called Fes Carpet,” but Malouk would not allow him to – he quickly shoved it into the package with the rugs just before it was thrown on the cart and they were enroute. I quickly asked the helpers for a card for the shop – surprised to find that the name was Fes Carpet SARL. The card had no indication of government ownership, which I remarked to Professor Alex and his response was, “the SARL means government owned.” Running after them, we arrived at the DHL Expess store front and Malouk and Professor Alex kept me outside, most likely so that I didn’t see what was happening. At that time, I was smart enough to take pictures of Professor Alex. As soon as the DHL experience was complete, the on-site DHL representative handed my husband a copy of the shipment receipt and we were off and running again.
Professor Alex (El Biach Hicham) made sure to keep reassuring us that all was ok. I WhatsApp messaged his colleague, Jason Cohen, who didn’t answer me so I called him only to find that he didn’t answer. The story continues to this day, but the DHL portion is above-mentioned. In addition, I contacted DHL as soon as we got back from Morocco on Tuesday morning via online messages as well as calls.
DO NOT CANCEL ANYTHING AT THIS POINT. IF THE LABEL IS CANCELED, THEN THERE MAY BE NO RECOURSE. THE SHIPMENT NEEDS TO BE LOCATED BY DHL AT THE DHL EXPRESS (86 Rue Betioui Oued Zhoun in Fes) AND HELD UNTIL AMERICAN EXPRESS COMPLETES ITS INVESTIGATION AND ANY AND ALL OF OUR MONIES ARE RETURNED TO US, FOR BOTH THE FAKE DHL SHIPMENT LABEL CREATED (approx. $960 USD) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE $41,000 ON AMERICAN EXPRESS!
IT IS IMPERITIVE THAT DHL WORKS WITH US AND AMERICAN EXPRESS TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO ANOTHER TOURIST IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS A SCAM THAT CONTINUES TO OCCUR IN FES – SOMETHING WE FOUND OUT ABOUT ON SATURDAY AND TO THIS DAY CONTINUE TO FIND OUT THAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN TAKEN IN THE SAME WAY!
FOR ALL FUTURE COMMUNICATION, PLEASE COPY ALL EMAILS INCLUDED IN THIS ONE! Thank you!
