MultiChoice Malawi was established in 1996 as a locally-owned franchise. The operation provides Malawian customers with a choice of five DStv and five GOtv packages. Local operations are run by a staff of 94 Malawian employees working in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, supported by a nationwide network of agents, retailers and installers.

MultiChoice Malawi has grown hand in hand with local communities and today employs 94 employees and footprint spanning across Malawi through retailers, 152 agencies, 58 accredited installers and a Direct Sales Force of more than 80.

Together, this team works to make the best local and global content available through DStv and GOtv, which provides crystal-clear digital satellite TV to a large segment of the population through 3 dedicated transmitter sites.

A major focus of the company’s social investment efforts is igniting Malawi’s creative industries through upskilling film and TV professionals. One way the business is doing this is through the introduction of the MultiChoice Expansion Program. A collaborative skills development initiative between MultiChoice, local producers and the public sector – through the MultiChoice Talent Factory skills development expertise.

Moreover, the annual MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy which develops the skills of young filmmakers through a year-long learnership programme at the Lusaka-based MTF Academy of Southern Africa has produced skilled alumni.

Chimwemwe Mkwezalamba and Jonathan Kapumba represented the first MTF student intake for Malawi in 2018. Mphatso Makamo and Chisomo Livason who graduated in 2019 and more co-horts to come. Following the successful completion of his learnership, Jonathan also secured a 3-week Bollywood internship and Mphatso participated in a production that was nominated in the MTF category of the 2022 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards, which took place in Lagos, Nigeria. These students and the many other talented young Malawians that will follow their footsteps will help create a pipeline of local content. Malawian viewers were able to enjoy truly Malawian stories during Africa month on DStv’s pop-up channel, AfroCinema and Zambezi Magic, which showcased favourites such as Fatsani: A Tale of Survival and Highbrow.
