A beautiful private villa available for rent in Kilifi.
As you go though the old Lamu doors of the Dhow House, the fabulous infinity swimming pool catches your eye. You enter a spacious courtyard with a bubbling fish pond; and on into the dining room towards the veranda and swimming pool. The infinity pool merges into the expansive view of the Indian Ocean beyond.
The house is situated at the top of a small cliff, so you get excellent sea-views, often with sea turtles swimming about in the waves at high tide, just below the house. The beach access is through a stairway tunnel, hand-crafted through the coral. At the bottom is a private cove, with excellent swimming, body surfing and snorkelling at certain tides. At low tide, one can walk to Takaunugu Creek near by. Owing to its cliff-top location, The Dhow House always enjoys cooling sea breezes throughout the year.
Upstairs is a large balcony living space, with large, comfortable day-beds, ideal for relaxing during the day, The ‘barazza’ seats on the veranda will probably be your main area for socialising during the day and the upstairs balcony in the evenings.
The Dhow House rooms are all large and spacious and are decorated with the minimum of fuss, which in turn gives the house a very sophisticated feel. The dining area has high ceilings from which the balcony looks down. Traditional Swahili furniture, is highlighted by white walls and decorative Swahili wall ‘Zidakas’ or plaster mouldings which add simple, but lovely accents.
There are three light, spacious bedrooms downstairs; two doubles with a sea view and a twin which is air-conditioned, with a garden view and ideal for children. The two master bedrooms are upstairs. All bedrooms have large coconut wood beds, mosquito nets and overhead fans. Generous bathrooms en suite have power showers. The Garden room is adjacent to the downstairs bathroom.
