Before you embark onto your dreadlocks journey, it is always important and advisable to know your hair in terms of hair type and density. Identifying your hair type will help in determining the outcome of the dreadlocks in terms of quantity, thickness and length.
Straight hair does not lock into dreadlocks easily hence the need for extensive crocheting and if left unattended can easily become shapeless. To avoid lumps and bumps, these kind of dreadlocks need constant attention especially during their early stages. On average it takes about six (6) months for these dreadlocks to settle and be solid.
Wavy hair and Curly hair do not lock easily too but however the dreadlocks hardly lose shape once started. This type of hair is needs more crocheting than the Kinky hair.
Kinky hair is relatively locks easier than the rest of the hair but very fragile. It needs great care as it can be easily affected by external factors such as hair products such as peroxide which may lead to hair breakage. With great care, the dreadlocks are always on point.
