Descendante d\u2019une longue lign\u00e9e de griots mandingues originaires du Mali, Sona Jobarteh n\u2019\u00e9tait pourtant pas destin\u00e9e \u00e0 jouer de la kora, un instrument qui se transmet de p\u00e8re en fils. Mais, comme elle l\u2019explique, son p\u00e8re n\u2019a pas voulu faire de distinction : \u00ab Pour lui, si je montrais de l’int\u00e9r\u00eat, c\u2019\u00e9tait son devoir de transmettre cette tradition, et d\u2019apprendre \u00e0 son enfant, pas son fils ou sa fille, et c\u2019est comme \u00e7a qu\u2019il m\u2019a vu, juste un enfant, pas un gar\u00e7on ou une fille. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9tudi\u00e9 plusieurs instruments au prestigieux Royal College of Music de Londres, Sona Jobarteh revient vers la kora et la Gambie. Mais c\u2019est en dehors du champ traditionnel qu\u2019elle parvient \u00e0 exister, sur sc\u00e8ne : \u00ab La sc\u00e8ne n\u2019est reli\u00e9e \u00e0 aucune r\u00e8gle, aucune fa\u00e7on de faire, parce que tout est nouveau.
