Les rugbymen ougandais ont d’abord sorti le champion sortant, le Kenya, 22 \u00e0 12. En finale, Mike Wokorach et ses co\u00e9quipiers ont \u00e9cras\u00e9 le Zimbabwe, 26 \u00e0 0, pour remporter le titre continental.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Nous avons eu que trois mois de pr\u00e9paration intensive pour ce tournoi. Et je pense qu’aujourd’hui, nous avons su prouver que ce dur labeur a port\u00e9 ses fruits et je suis tr\u00e8s heureux pour les gar\u00e7ons.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Alors que la coupe du monde de rugby \u00e0 7 aura lieu au Cap en septembre prochain, le succ\u00e8s du tournoi ougandais d\u00e9montre la capacit\u00e9 du continent \u00e0 accueillir un \u00e9v\u00e9nement de port\u00e9e internationale. La plan\u00e8te ovale sait qu’elle peut compter sur l’Afrique .<\/p>\n

Andrew Owor, vice-pr\u00e9sident de Rugby Afrique, se r\u00e9jouit du rugby pratiqu\u00e9 pendant deux jours :<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Le niveau s’est vraiment \u00e9lev\u00e9. On voit que les \u00e9quipes ont travaill\u00e9 dur. C’\u00e9tait bien de voir l’Ouganda, le Kenya, le Zimbabwe ou la Zambie \u00e0 un tel niveau. C’est une excellente publicit\u00e9 pour notre rugby\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

14 \u00e9quipes ont pris part au tournoi, dont les nations \u00e9mergentes que sont le Burundi, le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal ou le Burkina Faso, un plateau africain prometteur qui offre enfin au continent une plus grande pr\u00e9sence sur le circuit international.<\/p>\n

La l\u00e9gende ougandaise William Blick, aujourd’hui membre de CIO se r\u00e9jouit que \u00ab\u00a0tous ces_ pays acqui\u00e8rent plus d’exp\u00e9rience et sont capables de grandir encore. Le rugby \u00e0 sept en Afrique a donc progress\u00e9 et nous devons organiser davantage de tournois de ce type sur le continent.
