Ceci, suite \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte dans un mus\u00e9e de New York (Etats-Unis), d\u2019une sculpture \u00e9tiquet\u00e9e \u00ab le peuple lingala \u00bb, celui de son arri\u00e8re grand-m\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>A travers ce voyage, le chor\u00e9graphe se demande si les gens ont encore souvenance de cette \u0153uvre, s\u2019il leur rappelait quelque chose et si c\u2019\u00e9tait important pour eux. \u00ab J\u2019ai d\u00e9couvert \u00bb que c\u2019\u00e9tait le cas, indique \u00e0 Ouestaf News, Faustin Linyekula.<\/p>\n<p>Ceci d\u00e9montre tout \u00ab le sens que nous donnons \u00e0 la restitution \u00bb, souligne \u00e0 Ouestaf News le professeur d\u2019histoire de l\u2019art moderne \u00e0 l\u2019Institut d\u2019\u00e9tudes artistiques et d\u2019\u00e9tudes urbaines historiques de la Technische Universit\u00e4t \u00e0 Berlin (Allemagne), B\u00e9n\u00e9dicte Savoy. Il s\u2019agit, selon elle, de r\u00e9tablir une \u00ab justice patrimoniale \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>M. Linyekula et Pr Savoy ont tous pris part \u00e0 une rencontre organis\u00e9e \u00e0 Dakar par l\u2019Open Society Initiative for West Africa (Osiwa) le 24 mai 2022 sur le th\u00e8me : \u00ab Restitution du patrimoine africain : la nouvelle vague et son importance au sein des communaut\u00e9s \u00bb, dans le cadre du colloque scientifique de la 14e \u00e9dition de la Biennale de Dakar.<\/p>\n<p>En novembre 2018, un rapport intitul\u00e9 : \u00ab La restitution du patrimoine culturel africain. Vers une nouvelle \u00e9thique relationnelle \u00bb produit par le professeur d\u2019\u00e9conomie \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Gaston Berger de Saint-Louis (S\u00e9n\u00e9gal), Felwine Sarr et Pr B\u00e9n\u00e9dicte Savoy, a \u00e9t\u00e9 remis au pr\u00e9sident fran\u00e7ais Emmanuel Macron. Ce document pr\u00e9conisait la restitution d\u2019une grande partie des \u0153uvres d\u2019art et objets d\u2019origine africaine expos\u00e9s ou entrepos\u00e9s dans les mus\u00e9es en France.<\/p>\n<p>Ce processus, s\u2019il est enclench\u00e9 et r\u00e9ussi, va permettre aux pays africains de retrouver \u00ab la m\u00e9moire de leur histoire, de mieux d\u00e9velopper leur politique culturelle et de r\u00e9tablir les politiques mus\u00e9ales \u00bb, explique \u00e0 Ouestaf News le directeur artistique de la Biennale de Dakar 2022, Dr El Hadji Malick Ndiaye, en marge du colloque scientifique.<\/p>\n<p>Selon Dr Ndiaye, la restitution des \u0153uvres d\u2019art africaines vise \u00e0 \u00ab red\u00e9velopper un engouement pour le patrimoine \u00bb en vue de mieux g\u00e9rer le processus de transmission de celui-ci.<\/p>\n<p>En novembre 2019, le gouvernement fran\u00e7ais avait restitu\u00e9 le sabre et le fourreau attribu\u00e9s au marabout et r\u00e9sistant s\u00e9n\u00e9galais du 19e si\u00e8cle, El Hadji Omar Tall, qui \u00e9taient jusque-l\u00e0 expos\u00e9s au mus\u00e9e des Invalides de Paris (France).<\/p>\n<p>La France avait \u00e9galement restitu\u00e9 en novembre 2021, 26 \u0153uvres d\u2019art des tr\u00e9sors royaux d\u2019Abomey (B\u00e9nin), pill\u00e9es par les troupes coloniales fran\u00e7aises \u00e0 la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle. Plusieurs de ces \u0153uvres d\u2019art viennent de l\u2019ancien royaume d\u2019Abomey, conquis et pill\u00e9 par les troupes du g\u00e9n\u00e9ral fran\u00e7ais, Alfred Dodds en 1892.<\/p>\n<p>Ce \u00ab pillage \u00bb \u00e9tait souvent fait \u00ab dans des conditions tr\u00e8s violentes, tr\u00e8s difficiles \u00bb, souligne le conseiller sp\u00e9cial Ibrahima Kane de l\u2019Osiwa, tout en indiquant qu\u2019il doit y avoir \u00ab une reconnaissance de la part de ceux qui ont perp\u00e9tr\u00e9 ces actes \u00bb. Dans ce processus de restitution, M. Kane pense, qu\u2019il ne doit pas s\u2019agir de parler que d\u2019\u0153uvres d\u2019art mais de \u00ab connaissance \u00bb de celles-ci et des conditions dans lesquelles elles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00ab vol\u00e9es \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Il s\u2019agit \u00e9galement de r\u00e9tablir une forme de \u00ab justice sociale \u00bb, souligne le professeur d\u2019histoire \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Cap (Afrique du Sud) et directeur du programme africain d\u2019\u00e9tude mus\u00e9ale et patrimoniale, Ciraaj Rassool, lors d\u2019une table ronde, toujours dans la cadre des activit\u00e9s de la biennale de Dakar 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Pour le professeur Rassool, la question n\u2019est pas de retourner vers le pass\u00e9 mais \u00ab de l\u2019interroger \u00bb et de \u00ab s\u2019interroger sur l\u2019avenir du continent \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Restitution contre circulation<\/p>\n<p>Face aux revendications africaines, certains Europ\u00e9ens font de la r\u00e9sistance pour ne pas rendre \u00e0 l\u2019Afrique son patrimoine. La meilleure r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 la r\u00e9appropriation par les Africains de leur patrimoine n\u2019est pas \u00ab une restitution importante \u00bb comme le pr\u00e9conise le rapport Sarr-Savoy, d\u00e9fend vigoureusement St\u00e9phane Martin, pr\u00e9sident du Mus\u00e9e du Quai Branly-Jacque Chirac \u00e0 Paris (France). Lui, pr\u00e9conise plut\u00f4t un soutien \u00e0 de nouveaux mus\u00e9es et une large \u00ab circulation \u00bb des \u0153uvres d\u2019art.<\/p>\n<p>Le rapport met \u00ab beaucoup les mus\u00e9es sur la touche au profil des sp\u00e9cialistes de la r\u00e9paration m\u00e9morielle \u00bb, soutenait-il, cit\u00e9 par l\u2019Agence France Presse en novembre 2018. Et pour cause, il administre un mus\u00e9e qui rassemble 70.000 \u0153uvres d\u2019africain sur environ 90.000 \u0153uvres pr\u00e9sentes dans des collections publiques fran\u00e7aises, selon St\u00e9phane Martin.<\/p>\n<p>Mais en Afrique, ces arguments passent mal. La question de la \u00ab circulation \u00bb est \u00e9voqu\u00e9e pour \u00e9viter de parler de la question \u00ab des provenances \u00bb des \u0153uvres d\u2019art, de l\u2019histoire coloniale, d\u2019apr\u00e8s le Pr Felwine Sarr, pr\u00e9sident du Colloque scientifique de la Biennale de Dakar et coauteur du rapport sur la restitution d\u2019\u0153uvres d\u2019art africain.<\/p>\n<p>Pour qu\u2019il ait circulation, explique l\u2019universitaire s\u00e9n\u00e9galais, il faut que les deux axes de la circulation d\u00e9tiennent les choses \u00e0 faire circuler. \u00ab Lorsqu\u2019elle est dans un seul sens, il n\u2019y a pas de circulation \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Le Pr Savoy, lui s\u2019int\u00e9resse \u00e0 la nuance qu\u2019il y a entre les vocables \u00ab circulation \u00bb et \u00ab restitution \u00bb. Pour lui, la restitution est \u00ab une capsule du temps de l\u2019histoire \u00bb, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire qu\u2019il y a un temps d\u2019avant et d\u2019apr\u00e8s. Alors que la circulation, se fait \u00ab seulement dans l\u2019espace mais pas dans le temps \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Le 18 d\u00e9cembre 2020, le gouvernement fran\u00e7ais pr\u00e9cisait \u00e0 travers un communiqu\u00e9 qu\u2019il ne s\u2019agit pas \u00ab de restituer l\u2019ensemble des \u0153uvres africaines pr\u00e9sentes dans les collections publiques et priv\u00e9es (\u2026) \u00bb dans les mus\u00e9es fran\u00e7ais.<\/p>\n<p>Les actes de restitutions, selon le document, doivent s\u2019inscrire \u00e0 la fois dans un processus rigoureux \u00ab permettant toutes les formes de circulation des \u0153uvres : expositions, \u00e9changes, pr\u00eats, d\u00e9p\u00f4ts, coop\u00e9ration, etc. \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>A cela, Felwin Sarr r\u00e9pond que la \u00ab restitution est un pr\u00e9alable pour la circulation \u00bb des \u0153uvres d\u2019art.<\/p>\n<p>Le chor\u00e9graphe congolais, Faustin Linyekula, va plus loin estimant qu\u2019il faut d\u00e9passer la restitution pour aller vers une \u00ab r\u00e9appropriation \u00bb du patrimoine africain. Aller \u00ab au contact des objets \u00bb d\u2019art pour se \u00ab r\u00e9approprier le monde des connaissances qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 inscrits dans ces objets \u00bb pr\u00e9cise-t-il.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019artiste rwandais Dorcy Rugamba qui a mat\u00e9rialis\u00e9 cette r\u00e9appropriation du pass\u00e9 africain \u00e0 travers son exposition \u00ab Les Restes supr\u00eames \u00bb est convaincu que le \u00ab contact avec les objets d\u2019art \u00bb permettra de renouer avec \u00ab l\u2019esprit d\u2019antan \u00bb c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire \u00ab vivre en communaut\u00e9 et dans une belle harmonie \u00bb.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Une grande partie du patrimoine africain se trouve hors du continent et prive ce dernier d\u2019acc\u00e9der \u00e0 des \u00e9l\u00e9ments essentiels de sa culture.
