Ngii clocked a new African record of 43:50.00 coming in behind India\u2019s Priyanka who timed a new Personal Best time of 43:38.00.<\/p>\n
Australian Jemima Montag successfully defended her title, clocking a new Games Record and Personal best time of 42:34.00.<\/p>\n
The top three had broken from the field very early on, Australian Montag being the first to break away, Priyanka and Ngii following her down.<\/p>\n
But, the Australian injected some more pace with 10 laps to go and began building a gap that grew to 33 seconds with eight laps to go.<\/p>\n
Priyanka and Ngii remained side by side, exchanging leads. With three laps to go, the two had worked to reduce the gap to just 24 seconds, but it was the Indian who began to pull away, Ngii failing to respond.<\/p>\n
The Indian slowly opened up a gap on the Kenyan, gliding away to almost 50m ahead.<\/p>\n
At the bell, the medals were decided. Montag had a half lap gap over the Indian, who had another 100m gap over Ngii and it didn\u2019t seem to change.<\/p>\n
The Kenyan didn\u2019t give a fight and was comfortable as she strolled through the final lap to secure her first Commonwealth Games medal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
