As we look back in reflection, we\u2019ve rounded up five breakthrough local talents who took 2022 by storm.<\/p>\n
Amapiano artist Toss entered the industry with a bang!<\/p>\n
When he shared a video of himself topless shaking hips sideways, dancing to \u201cUmlando\u201d by 9umba, Mdoovar and him, he became a viral sensation. Since then he has gone on to show the power of consistency.<\/p>\n
Toss capitalised on his moment and ran without, he didn\u2019t just get Mzansi men shaking their hips to \u201cUmlando\u201d and disappear. Instead he had carved a lane for himself as a sought-out feature.<\/p>\n
He has recorded hits with artists such as Felo Le Tee on the smash hit \u201cManca\u201d and has released another banger \u201cNcebeleka\u201d in time for the festive season.<\/p>\n
The song earned the young artist his first South African Music Award for TikTok Most Viral Song which was introduced at the 298th annual awards ceremony.<\/p>\n
Konke<\/p>\n
Musa Keys\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9 Konke is quite the superstar and his rise has been a thing of beauty to witness. After meeting amapiano artist Keys online things have gone from one level to the next for the 20-year-old, Phiwakonke Ntokozo Ntanzi.<\/p>\n
Konke\u2019s collaboration Keys \u201cKancane\u201d and \u201cM\u2019nike\u201d are among the hottest tracks out at the moment.<\/p>\n
Just last week it was revealed that \u201cKancane\u201d had been certified double platinum in South Africa for sales of 40 000 equivalent unit sales (or 4.8 million streams).<\/p>\n
The young artist\u2019s future looks very promising and we should expect more bangers from him in the new year.<\/p>\n
Thato Saul<\/p>\n
Pretoria native Thato Saul, 26 years old, came out in full force this year with his breakthrough album, \u201cLife is Gangsta\u201d.<\/p>\n
Saul has been in the music industry for a few years but this is the album that has made critics pay attention.<\/p>\n
His hot verses on several features, such Mashbeatz\u2019s hit single \u201cNever Ride\u201d have made him a force to be reckoned with in South African Hip Hop.<\/p>\n
He may have been snubbed by not making MTV Base\u2019s annual \u201cHottest MC\u201d in SA. Thato Saul, however, got his flowers when he scooped album of the year and best freshman at the SA Hip Hop Awards held on December 6.<\/p>\n
Ney<\/p>\n
Anele Zondo, better known as Ney, on the music scene has shown she is worth being taken seriously.<\/p>\n
She released the visuals to her single \u201cIngwe\u201d and has gone on to collaborate with Nadia Nakai on a hot rap single. She has also released a new EP \u201cYou Think You Know Me\u201d keeping up with the excitement around her music.<\/p>\n
She has performed at two major awards ceremonies, the inaugural Basadi in Music Awards and the SA Hip Hop Awards.<\/p>\n
With all her performances she has delivered a show, from choreographer to looks and stage presence. Here\u2019s to watching her continue to flourish.<\/p>\n
Nkosazana Daughter<\/p>\n
Nkosazana Daughter has broken out as a strong female vocalist in the country. Her vocals on hit song \u201cDali Nguwe\u201d with Master KG and Wanitwa Mos, had fans singing along.<\/p>\n
The song was the fourth most streamed song in the country on Spotify. Her feature on Tyler ICU\u2019s song \u201cInhliziyo\u201d with Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa even landed on \u201cThe New York Times\u201d list of best songs of 2022.<\/p>\n
Her melodic mellow voice blended with the right beat, is proving to be a force. Her collaboration with Murdah Bongz \u201cSummer Love\u201d has grown into a firm favourite among fans as it climbs music charts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
