“Since we moved here in Mississippi, my mom and my family have been cooking and inviting family and friends, and after tasting the food, they keep asking, “Why don’t you open a restaurant?” People love this food. Why don’t you do it so people can have African food,” owner Joseph Sambou said.<\/p>\n
The Sambous held a grand opening Saturday with Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba there to welcome in the new business.<\/p>\n
“It’s more restaurants like this. We have unique offerings, more so than even our franchise establishments, that remind people of their experience in Jackson. I am happy to be here and happy to see new business owners who are not only investing in our cities, but we want them to be profitable,” Lumumba said.<\/p>\n
The owner said one of the reasons he wanted to open this establishment was to bring Jacksonians authentic African cuisine.<\/p>\n
“We looked at the Jackson area and we realized there was no representation as far as African dishes, so we decided we are going to give it a shot, and give it an investment, and we are going to provide some African flavors and African food,” Sambou said.<\/p>\n
