Wangari is a Kenyan singer, writer and activist mentored by Grammy award-winning South African singer Miriam Makeba and civil rights activist Joan Baez.<\/p>\n
Wangari\u2019s finely crafted and infectious rhythms create modern African soundscapes, mixing the creative instrumentation of Swahili folk traditions and Taraab with a fusion of other multi-cultural influences. Her latest album, \u201cSiri Ya Diani\u201d (Secret of the Sea) has just been released.<\/p>\n
Fahari was recently named an Eastern Massachusetts Rising Star by the Center For Women Enterprise in Boston and she\u2019s also received several arts and culture awards from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and Mass MoCA. Trio\u2019s performance is supported by the Marblehead Cultural Council, a local agency, which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, as part of the \u201cWorld Music Series at the Me&Thee.<\/p>\n
