“The purpose of the Africana Festival is to showcase the rich cultural traditions of the continent of Africa and the people within the African diaspora.
Essentially, it’s the time to celebrate the beautiful patterns of african clothing, the spicy taste of african food, the sounds of dances to afro beats, and research presentations of local high school students and EKU students,” said Bruce E. Mitchell II, associate director of the Center of Inclusive Excellence and Global Engagement (CIEGE).
The Africana Festival was located on the ground floor of the Powell Student Center and CIEGE. The event had a variety of activities for students and staff to explore, such as a fashion parade, food, music and poster presentations.
