Local rapper Emtee was won of the few South African artists who represented Mzansi at the Global Music Awards Africa 2022. The Roll Up hitmaker, who was nominated for the Hip Hop Artist of the Year Award, was victorious in the category.
Voting for the Global Music Awards Africa winners took place online. The awards honour mainstream and young artists across the African continent.
Emtee was nominated for the Hip Hop Artist of the Year award alongside A-Reece, Ghanian rappers Sarkodie.
and Kwesi Arthur and Nigerian muso, Ladiope. The 29-year-old rapper was also nominated in the Artist of the Year category.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday 20 April, Emtee celebrated his win writing: “Can’t keep a good man down innit”.
Taking to Twitter to congratulate Emtee on his win, one tweep wrote: “They done took everything from Emtee bruh, not his talent, dude is gifted y’all.”
Amapiano producer and DJ, Mr JazziQ won the Producer of the Year Award while Johannesburg-based house trio Mi Casa won the Group of the Year Award.
Other local artists who were nominated for awards were Josiah De Disciple, Major League DJz, Busiswa and Yanga Chief.
