Against all odds, the Atlas Lions knocked Portugal out of the tournament 1-0 to book a place in the last four of the tournament, being held in Qatar.
Two days after this historic feat, Buhari released a statement congratulating Morocco’s ruler, King Mohammed VI on his country’s historic milestone.
Morocco has made the entire continent proud with their dexterity, reviving hope that an African team can indeed win, and should win the ongoing global championship in Qatar.”

According to the Nigerian President, the Atlas Lions’ skill and teamwork could not have been achieved without the exemplary role of the Moroccan authorities in putting together a formidable team.
