A project of the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF), MIALive has supported more than 80 African music projects with grants to the tune of €750 000 since 2020, in partnership with the German Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung and Goethe-Institut.

The release of the latest performances comes after the MIAF published an open call in 2022 inviting live music venues, companies and institutions operating within the African music sector to apply for grants.

Between €6 000 and €10 000 were awarded to successful applicants from the whole of Africa to produce high-quality digital live concerts, with an emphasis on professional productions that offer real exposure, export prospects and more opportunities for musicians and audiences.

The latest batch of videos, which are available for free viewing via the MIALive website, were shot in different locations across Africa, including South Africa, Cameroon, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya and the DRC.

They feature multi-genre artists such as Sun-El Musician (South Africa), Vivi Makado (Ivory Coast), Lornoar (Cameroon), Adorkor Band (Ghana), Azmari Synthesis (Ethiopia), Fena Gitu (Kenya) and Mjoe Zuka (DRC), among many others.

In addition to digital live productions, MIALive supports Capacity Building and Advocacy projects. The former category enables digital initiatives that develop relevant critical skills for music professionals to navigate the new challenges and transformations of the industry, especially those introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic, while the latter funds projects that conduct advocacy aimed at protecting the interests of musicians through the creation of relevant content.
