It was a farming land that was established around forty years back. Later it was sold to the National Parks Department. The farmhouse built by the farming couple acts as the reception area for the national park now. The flatlands are surrounded by acacia trees. As this place was opened to the public only a few years back it still maintains the virgin feel. It is not abundant in predatory wildlife which makes it unattractive to many. Hence it is an ideal place to have a peaceful weekend with nature.
Attractions At The Blue Lagoon National Park
The main attraction of the national park is its abundance in Kafue Lechwe, zebras, buffalo, and birds. When the flood-land is wet, you can expect to see a wide variety of birds. The low numbers of predatory animals allow the lechwe to roam around freely. You can drive into the flats using the causeway and see these animals very close. This is not possible in other national parks.
The other big attraction in this park is the river python which can be seen very often. They come attracted by the large groups of lechwe that come to feed in the shallow waters. Birds are the other attraction in these plains. You can find a variety of birds during the wet season. These birds migrate from many distant places. You can see the endangered Wattle Crane in the plains. The other birds include the African Fish Eagle, open-billed storks, waterfowls, etc.
