An upcoming Aberdeen charity gala will be offering a celebration of African cultures while promoting the empowerment of women.

The African Women’s Group Scotland has announced that its Charity Fundraising Gala will be held at the city’s Union Kirk on December 17.

The event aims to raise funds for families in hardship and will involve a night of ‘cultural celebration and philanthropy’ as African heritage is explored through traditional art, dances and music. There will also be a marketplace of authentic African crafts and the evening will also feature food inspired by African cuisines.

The AWGS has provided financial support to over 800 families since the beginning of the pandemic. The gala will highlight the group’s contribution to the ongoing development of support programs, including employment assistance, confidence-building and settlement services.

The AWGS has extended an open invitation to Aberdeen businesses and the broader community to come to the gala and consider sponsorship opportunities.

A spokesperson for the AWGS said: “Aligning with AWGS not only showcases commitment to social responsibility but also offers organisations public recognition, enhanced brand visibility, and valuable networking prospects.

“Beyond financial sponsorship, contributions of auction items—be they tangible goods, unique experiences, or services—are also welcomed.

“This gala is a chance for sponsors and donors alike to make a significant impact while gaining exposure at a high-profile event celebrating African cultures and supporting an important cause.”
