Man Utd Submit Bid For African Star

United have an ageing forward line, with star striker Cristiano Ronaldo 37 years old and Uruguayan marksman Edinson Cavani a 35-year-old who is set to leave as a free agent at the end of the season, so there is a necessity for the Red Devils to inject some youth into their attack.

Erik ten Hag was recently appointed as United’s new manager and will take the reins at Old Trafford from the beginning of next season, but there are growing concerns Ronaldo may not be the best fit for the style of football the Dutchman is keen to play.

It seems the 13-time Premier League champions have already found the man who could next lead their attack, though, with La Republicca reporting that United have submitted a bid of £84 million (R1.6 billion) to Napoli for the services of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.

Although hampered by injury this season, Osimhen has put up respectable numbers at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, scoring 16 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions for Gli Azzurri.

The Super Eagle missed the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon due to a cheekbone fracture he sustained in November 2021. Irrespective of that, though, he is a striker in demand, with the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United also heavily linked with the forward.

Howver, United’s reported offer puts them in a commanding position as far as those linked with the forward are concerned as it is said to meet Napoli’s valuation of the player.

It is further claimed that the Nigerian’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has had a “secret meeting” with Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis to discuss his client’s future.

Should the Mancunians fail to sign the West African, Sebastien Haller and Darwin Nunez are reportedly alternatives to bolster Ten Hag’s attacking options.

Haller has scored 46 goals in 62 appearances under the Dutchman’s tutelage at Ajax Amsterdam, while Nunez has found the back of the net 33 times in 39 appearances for Benfica across all competitions in this campaign.
